Nothing better than knowing about the past. Realizing what came and happened before anything that is going on now. I learned
about a few interesting things that went on during a war from reading a book and from looking at my site I'm sure you will
learn interesting facts also. That is why I picked the title "Opened Door to the Western Front." I feel like it
was appropriate since by putting facts on my site and thing about the book, I'm technically opening up about what went on.
The few pictures I posted are very much related to the story and symbolize a lot of what went on. The picture with the two
soldiers sitting behind the gun is what soldiers looked like during the war in the book. Soldiers were usually with one or
more people and not always alone. The picture with the soldiers on the horses running at other soldiers symbolize when they
would take the horses out. Many horses died and by seeing this, some soldiers went insane. The boots symbolize how when Kemmerich
had his leg amputated, his own friends had their mind based on his boots since they were pretty nice looking and in good shape.
Boots were important because if you didn't have good boots, you're feet would hurt and would be a problem while you were out
in war. The German flag symbolizes the patriotsm that all the soldiers had for their country and how their teacher was the
reason why they went. The picture of the gas bomb reminds everyone of how some soldiers died. It was very affective and feared
many soldiers. It killed large amounts of men at one time which was good to the other side. The picture of the broken heart
is a way to express the way the soldiers felt when they thought of their families back home. Im sure they were sad and missed
them more than anything while they were away.
